Jim Lawton

Jim's success in the financial services industry is a reflection of his entrepreneurial spirit. It was this enthusiasm coupled with his unique vision to improve existing financial services that led to his formation of Lawton Partners in 1974.

Jim saw the need for an independent advisory firm that would provide clients with options not available in the large financial institutions.

Jim has dedicated his career to providing comprehensive financial service and unbiased professional advice to his clients. Lawton Partners utilizes the latest technology both to increase efficiency and provide a higher level of service. Jim likewise employs high hiring standards, which stress three factors: high intelligence, high energy and high ethics.

Jim has built Lawton Partners through referrals from satisfied clients and professionals in related fields. He credits his success to genuinely caring for his clients and always placing their best interest first. His areas of expertise include investment management, estate planning, taxation, and structural strategies.

Jim Lawton's contributions to the community as a volunteer include leadership roles in associations and non-profit organizations devoted to improving Winnipeg 's business climate, enhancing the financial planning industry, and investing in health care, post-secondary education and the arts.

Jim was a founding director of the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners, which is now part of Advocis. He is a long-time member of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, where he has served as chair of the Pension Reform Committee. He has also been a director and is a past president of the Winnipeg Executive Association.

He has served as a director of the Health Sciences Foundation and the founding chair of the Planned Gifts Committee. He has been involved with the Manitoba Theatre Centre, most recently as a member of the Endowment Cabinet. Jim maintains an active involvement with the University of Manitoba . Most recently he has served as the chairman of the Associates of the Asper Business School .

Despite his busy schedule, Jim enjoys such hobbies as fishing, sailing, skiing and mountain biking.

Jim has been married over 30 years to Kathy, and they have three children and five grandchildren.
